CANINE WOOL IS A 100% DOG ARTISANAL PRODUCT

It is made only from the undercoat of dogs (fill or down). It is a long and meticulous work that requires at least two hours to complete all the phases of making a ball of about 50 gr ready to knit. I specify that I spin without cotton, silk or nylon weft. I only spin the fibers of your dog, without any mixture, even with a very short undercoat.

LE CARDAGE

carding the dog's undercoat

The undercoat arrives raw from brushing, without knots or twigs. It is carded several times on a roller carder in order to aerate the hair, to remove the sebum and to mix the colors for certain breeds. This operation allows the fibers to be put in the same direction in order to facilitate spinning.

LE FILAGE

The undercoat is spun on a traditional spinning wheel. Spinning 2 spools of 1 thread in one direction. I spin as finely as possible but with strength otherwise the wool would disintegrate with use. Then, assembly of the 2 threads by a twist to obtain the wool

WASHING and DRYING

Wool before and after washing

Once the twisting is done, the wool is put into   skeins on a reel. The wool must be tied so that it does not get tangled during washing operations.

THE BALLS

Dogwool wool balls

The balls are made with a winder. They are personalized with the breed and name of your dog. To knit, simply start your ball from the center. You may lose micro fibers while knitting; this is normal, the undercoat being very short.

Once knitted, do not hesitate to shake your knitting regularly or use a hair dryer on cold to blow away the excess. After a while, your wool will stabilize.

When I started my business in 1998, there were two of us in France spinning dog wool. Today, I think I have acquired some experience that I put at your disposal, always with the same passion and the same care.

I have spun many different breeds, more than 1000 dogs , some several times. My "dog clients" are in France, but also in Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Lebanon, Israel, Reunion Island, New Caledonia, Canada and the United States.
